Jake Martin Dracut MA Obituary Death, Beloved Active-Duty Firefighter Passes Away

The Dracut Fire Department is heartbroken to share the untimely passing of Firefighter Jacob “Jake” Martin, a dedicated active-duty member whose life was devoted to serving and protecting his community. His sudden loss has brought profound grief to his family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Jake’s passing is a sobering reminder of the sacrifices made by those who choose a life of public service.

Jake, 32, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington due to a medical condition. Surrounded by his loved ones—family, friends, and fellow firefighters—he left this world enveloped in the same support and love that he had so freely given to others. His absence has cast a shadow of sorrow over the Dracut Fire Department and the wider community, who remember him not only as a capable firefighter but also as a kind, easygoing, and uplifting presence.

A native of Lowell, Massachusetts, Jake graduated from Greater Lowell Technical High School in 2011. Inspired by his family’s legacy of service—his father, retired Dracut Fire Lieutenant Paul Martin, and his uncle, retired Firefighter Marc Martin—Jake pursued his calling with determination. His dedication to helping others was evident early on, first through his work with Pridestar Trinity EMS in Lowell, where he demonstrated compassion and professionalism in emergency care.

In February 2023, Jake proudly graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy and immediately joined the Dracut Fire Department. Assigned to Engine 2 at the Jones Avenue Fire Station, he quickly became known for his eagerness to learn, his steady commitment to the job, and his camaraderie with his fellow firefighters. He also volunteered with the District 6 Forestry Hand Crew, further reflecting his willingness to step up whenever help was needed.

Jake is survived by his fiancée, Aislinn Kearns; his parents, Paul and Sheila Martin; his brother, Zach; his sister, Angela; and many extended family members. To them, and to his fire department family, his passing leaves an immeasurable void.

Chief Cunha remembered him warmly, saying, “Jake was laid-back, easygoing, and always ready with a smile. He found joy in the little things—like picking up his guitar during downtime—and his presence brought light to those around him. He was truly part of our family.”

Arrangements for his funeral service will be shared in the coming days. As the community grieves, the Dracut Fire Department honors Jake Martin’s legacy of service, compassion, and quiet strength. Though his life was tragically cut short, his memory will endure in the hearts of all who loved him.
